January 17th - Book Group

We have a book group as part of our Relief Society activities.  Our group is pretty small - sometimes as many as 10 or so, but often less.  It was a rainy night in Georgia, and there were some conflicts, so there were only four of us who showed up this time.  That didn't mean we had any less fun than usual!

We always just do pot luck refreshments and with only four of us, we still managed to have a good variety.  The book we read this time was Manhunt: the 12 Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer by James L. Swanson.  I had read it about a year ago and had recommended it.  It is a history of the events leading up to the assassination and then the chase for John Wilkes Booth afterwards.  It is a good history, written in a style that makes the story come alive.  We all liked it and all learned things we didn't know before.

Our conversations then really go all over the place.  For everyone, it is a chance to read a book and talk about it, but even more it is about getting out with other sisters and getting to socialize.  We finally closed things out around 9:30 or so.

It took a little effort to go out on a rainy night, but as usual, I had a great time.  These women are great friends and wonderful people and an evening spent with them is an evening well spent!
